burj khalifa of dubai
.The Burj Khalifa[a] is a skyscraper located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Before it was inaugurated, it was known as the Burj Dubai. It is the highest building in the world, standing 829.8 meters (2,722 feet, or somewhat more than half a mile) tall overall, with a roof height of 828 meters (2,717 feet) (not including the antenna, but containing a 242.6-meter spire). Since topping out in 2009, it has also held the title of tallest skyscraper in the world, overtaking the Taipei 101, which had held that title since 2004.
The Burj Khalifa’s exterior was finished in 2009, five years after construction started in 2004. The Palace of the Republic in East Berlin, the location of the old East German parliament, provided some of the structural steel used in the building’s main reinforced concrete framework. The structure debuted in 2010 as a component of the Downtown Dubai development. It was intended to serve as the focal point of a significant mixed-use project.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is honored by the building’s name. When the developer, Emaar Properties, ran into financial difficulties during the Great Recession, the government of the United Arab Emirates gave Dubai financial support.
The Great Mosque of Samarra and other Islamic structures in the area served as inspiration for the design. The tripartite floor geometry in the shape of a Y is intended to maximize both hotel and residential space. The building’s height is supported by wings and a buttressed central core. All vertical mobility, with the exception of egress stairs inside each wing, is housed in the central core of the Burj Khalifa. Additionally, the building has a cladding system that is made to resist the intense summer heat in Dubai. There are eight escalators and fifty-seven elevators in all.
